Internet Setup for Win98/95 w/IE4.x /Manual Setup

Before you begin, take time to read over these directions, If a picture looks unfamiliar to your setup, that's okay, different versions of the internet setup wizard have different pictures, The text, however is the same. If you do not have this wizard, please go back to the main menu and choose win95 manual config. You may wish to print this page and save it for future reference.

Be sure that no other programs are running, and be sure  that your "Caps Lock" key is "OFF" because information is case sensitive)


Setup for Microsoft Internet Connection Wizard (Win95,98 v.4.0)

1. Double-Click the "Internet Explorer" icon on your desktop, If this is the first time you have started it, a screen for the Internet Connection Wizard will appear.

2. The next screen welcomes you and has 3 options, Select the second option "I have an existing Internet account..." Press "Next" in the lower right-hand corner to continue.

3. The next screen asks about 2 options, select the first "Select this option if accessing using an isp or lan" Press "Next to continue.

4. The next screen asks how to connect to the internet, select "Connect using my phone line" Press "Next to continue"

5. The next screen asks about creating a dialup connection, select "Create a new dial-up connection"

7. A screen will come up for phone number. Enter the Cheshire Net access number LOCAL to you (for the most current number visit our website www.cheshire.net or call tech support if you do not know this number.) Uncheck dial using area code and country code. Press "Next"

8. The next screen asks for your username and password., Type them in EXACTLY as they appear on you information sheet, make sure Caps Lock is OFF, Username and password are case sensitive, Press "Next"

9.For changing advanced settings, say "Yes" press "next"

10. Type of connection "ppp" press "Next"

11.For connect script, set to "I don't need to type anything" Press Next.

12. IP address, set to "My server automatically assigns this" press "Next"

13. DNS server, Set to "Always Use the Following" Type 216.107.216.3 for DNS server, 216.107.216.4 for secondary. press "Next"

14. For Dial-up connection name, type "Cheshire Net" Press "Next"

15. When asked to setup your internet mail account, say "Yes" press "Next"

16. When asked for your name, enter it in, This can be your real name, a nickname, family name, etc. lowercase only is not necessary in this section. Press "Next"

17. Internet email address, Enter your email address EXACTLY how it is typed on your information sheet, lowercase, no spaces. Press "Next"

18. Email server names, My incoming mail server is a "POP3" server. Incoming mail server: adam.cheshire.net  Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtp.cheshire.net Press "Next"

19.Internet Mail Logon, Select "Log on using" Pop acct name is your username, password is your password, press "Next"

20. Friendly Name: You can type whatever you would like, we suggest adam.cheshire.net. Click on "Next"

21. Internet News account (optional.) If you have a news server that you would like to use, select yes and enter the information requested (screen shots not shown.) Otherwise, select no and click on "Next."

22. Select "No" for Internet Directory Service, Cheshire Net doesn't have one. Press "Next"

23. You are finished! Press "Finish"

To connect to the internet, double-click the "Internet" icon on your desktop. It should auto dial, and connect you, Your email will also be configured, If you have any questions or problems, Please call tech support at 352-0212 (toll free: 1-888-430-8324)

Manual Setup for Win95,98

1. Open your "My computer" Icon, usually located in the upper right-hand corner of your desktop.

2. Open Dial-up Networking, You will either be automatically transferred to step 3 or you will see an icon that says "Make a new connection" Open make a new connection

3. When asked to type a name for the configuration, type Cheshire Net, make sure your modem is selected, press "Next"

4. Type in the Cheshire Net access number LOCAL to you (for the most current number visit our website www.cheshire.net or call tech support if you do not know this number.)

5. The computer will say that you have successfully created a dialup connection, Press "Finish"

6. Right-click the "Cheshire Net" icon, a menu will open with options, select "properties"

7. You will see a screen with the phone number, make sure its correct, If you live in NH, uncheck "Use area code in dialing properties" Press the tab next to "general" called "server types"

8. Under advanced options, make sure ONLY "Enable software compression" is checked. Under "Allowed Network Protocols" check ONLY TCP/IP, press "TCP/IP Settings"

9. Set the first option to "Server Assigned IP address. Set the second option to "Specify Name server address" For Primary DNS, enter 216.107.216.3  For secondary DNS, enter 216.107.216.4, leave Primary and Secondary WINS as 0.0.0.0, make sure "use IP header Compression" and "Use Default Gateway on remote network" are both checked. Press "Okay" Press "Okay" again, Close Dial-up networking and my computer. 10. Right-Click on your Internet Icon, select properties.

11. Click the "Connection" tab, make sure its set to "Connect to the internet as needed" and that the connection is set to Cheshire Net. (Win95) or "Connect to the internet using a modem (IE 4.x, Win98) press modem settings, make sure that Cheshire Net is selected and enter in your username and password in lowercase.

12. Press "Okay" you are back at the desktop. Double-click the Internet Icon, You should automatically connect.
