Internet Setup for MacOs 8.x/iMac

Before you begin, take time to read over these directions, If a picture looks unfamiliar to your setup, thats okay, different versions of the internet setup assistant have different pictures, The text, however is the same. If you do not have this assistant, please go back to the main menu and choose MacOS 7.x/Manual Config. You may wish to print this page and save it for future reference.

Be sure that no other programs are running, and be sure  that your "Caps Lock" key is "OFF"(information is case sensitive)

1. Under the Apple Menu (The small rainbow colored apple in the upper left-hand corner of the screen), Select "Internet Access" inside this folder, select the "Internet Setup Assistant".

2. When the setup assistant opens, it will ask if you would like to setup your computer on the internet. Click "Yes"

3. The Assistant will ask if you already have an internet account, Click "Yes"

4. An introduction screen will come up explaining the setup, after reading this, click the right arrow in the lower right-hand corner to continue.

5. Under "what would you like to name...",enter Cheshire Net. Below it asks for the connection type, select Modem. click the right arrow

6. The next screen asks for modem settings. Choose your modem and port, be sure you have tone dialing set. (iMac users should have this automatically filled in) Click the right arrow to continue.

7. Enter your account information (see information sheet) if you don't have the sheet, call our main office (352-9966) to request one. BE SURE to pick a LOCAL phone number, enter your username, enter your password, click the right arrow to continue.

8. For PPP connect script, enter "NO" click the right arrow to continue.

9. Select "NO" when asked if this configuration was assigned an IP address. Click the right arrow to continue.

10. Enter the DNS information. Current DNS servers are 216.107.2163 and 216.107.216.4 and the domain name is cheshire.net. Be very careful of caps and spelling. Make sure periods are periods "." not commas "," Click the right arrow to continue.

11. Enter your E-Mail address and password EXACTLY as they are written on your information sheet. Press the right arrow to continue.

12. Enter your E-Mail account and the SMTP host of smtp.cheshire.net. Click the right arrow to continue.

13. Enter your favorite newsgroups source, if you have one, and click the right arrow to continue.

14 When asked about the Proxy server, say "No" (Cheshire Net Does Not use a Proxy Server)

15. You are finished entering the information. click "Finish" to complete the setup procedure. At this point the computer will attempt to connect to the internet. If you want to connect later, uncheck "Connect when finished"

To connect, Simply double-click the "Browse the internet" icon. The modem should dial and you be online. If you have any problems, please call tech support at 352-0212, or toll-free at 1-888-430-8324.
