Internet Setup for MacOS OTPPP/FreePPP/ConfigPPP Before you begin, take time to read over these directions, This page will be broken into 3 sections, OT/PPP, (the setup that most newer Macs use) FreePPP, A 3rd party shareware connection program, and MacTCP/ConfigPPP, the oldest type of connection software. If you own an iMac, a new G3, or any Mac running MacOS 8.0 or newer, please go back to the main menu and choose MacOS 8.x/iMac. You may wish to print this page and save it for future reference. Be sure that no other programs are running, and be sure that your "Caps Lock" key is "OFF" (information is case sensitive) |

Open Transport PPP/ Manual Config for MacOS 8 or newer. |

1. Go to your Apple Menu (upper
left-hand corner) got to control panels and open the "Modem" Control Panel.
Select your modem port, select your modem out of the list. Close window and save. 2. In Control Panels, open "PPP" Under name, put in your username (lowercase, no spaces) in password, enter your password. In Number, enter the Cheshire Net access number LOCAL to you, Close the widow and save. |

3. In Control Panels, open "TCP/IP" Set connect via to "PPP" Set Configure to "Use PPP Server" IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Router Address, all will be supplied by server. Under Name Server Addr, enter 216.107.216.3 and 216.107.216.4. Under Additional Search Domain, enter ns.cheshire.net and ns2.cheshire.net Remember lowercase, and no spaces. Close the window and save. | Your Finished, Now open your Browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.) the computer should dial and connect and you should be able to start surfing. FreePPP Setup |

1. On your Menu bar you will see
an icon which looks like a phone, click it and select "Open FreePPP Setup" 2. At the top of the screen you will see a setting for "Connect to" select "New Account. |

1. Under Account Name, enter
"Cheshire Net" connection should be set to "Directly" Enter your
username and password, Remember lowercase letters. Reconnect automatically is optional,
turn it on if you would like the computer to redial if it gets disconnected. 2. Click the "Dialup" Tab. Under "Main Number" enter the Cheshire Net access number local to you. |

3.Click the options tab and put
in the DNS information. Domain is cheshire.net, Primary DNS is 216.107.216.3, Secondary DNS
216.107.216.4, set IP address to "Assigned by PPP server. 4. Press "Okay" close the FreePPP window. |
Your Finished, Now open your Browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, etc.) the computer should dial and connect and you should be able to start surfing. If you need any help, please contact techsupport. |
MacTCP/Config PPP Note: This is a VERY outdated method of connecting, If your computer is running system 7.1 or newer, and has 16 or more megabytes of ram, we strongly consider upgrading to Open Transport PPP, Software is available at our main office. Contact techsupport for more information. |

Click your "Apple Menu" (upper left-hand corner) go to "Control Panels" and select "ConfigPPP" Under "Port Name" select "Modem Port" Idle timeout is optional but you may wish to set it to 20-30 min. "Echo Interval" should be "Off" Uncheck "Terminal Window" Keep the other two checked. Under "PPP Server" Press "Config" Set "Port Speed" and select the speed for your modem (14.4 uses 19.200, 28.8 is 38.4, 33.6 is 57,600, 56k is 115,200. Select "Tone" dial, In "Phone Number" enter the Cheshire Net Access number local to you (VT users add 1 and the area code 603) Click "Okay" Restart the computer. |

2. Go to "Control
Panels" select "MacTCP" make sure "PPP" is selected. Press
"More" 3. Set "Obtain Address" to "Dynamically" Under "Domain Name Server Information" Enter ns.cheshire.net and ns2.cheshire.net under "Domain" under "IP Address" enter 216.107.216.3 and 216.107.216.4 Press "Okay" Close MacTCP, restart the computer. |
